The end is approaching in Ayvansaray Neighborhood Urban Renewal Project, the project designing studies of which were initiated by Fatih Municipality in 2006 and the application studies of which were maintained by the year 2012.
One of the most important features of the project is the creation of a Turkish neighborhood and to reflect history in the future by restoring the buildings reflecting traditional Turkish architecture that is integrated with history and culture in accordance with the original.
Ayvansaray Neighborhood, which is an important location at the junction of the Golden Horn and the land walls, has a great importance in cultural and historical aspects in Fatih, Historical Peninsula. Ayvansaray with a narrow, traditional street structure with stairs that is located close to the Prison of Anemas and on a steep land rising up towards Tekfur Palace, has an architectural structure consisting mainly two to three-storey modest wooden houses.
The projecting studies that Fatih Municipality has initiated in 2006 as part of renewal include approximately 20,000 square meters areas. There are a total of 4 islands, 68 parcels, 15 Civil Architecture Example buildings and 4 Monument Works in the area. According to approved renewal preliminary design, it has been planned to build 37 Houses, 5 Commerce, 1 Social Cultural Facility, 1 Multi-storey Car Park and 1 Social Facility in the area. Within the framework of the project, the buildings that are totally Ottoman-Turkish architectural examples with a maximum of 3 floors in Ayvansaray Turkish Neighborhood have been restored in accordance with the original.
The most important criterion considered in Ayvansaray Turkish Neighborhood urban scale project design is the historical identity of the place and the protection of traditional Turkish neighborhood. Therefore, it has been aimed to bring the historical language of the region into the forefront, protect Turkish architectural and cultural identity and to make the place a tourism center alternative to Sultanahmet tourism center where artistic and cultural activities are held within the international context. Along with the project, the sustainability of historical texture and the unique identity of the city and the transformation of the region into contemporary, modern, livable spaces integrated with history and culture have been ensured, and the history has been reflected in the future.
