There was an intense attendance to the first iftar program in Sultanahmet, that has become traditional. The first of iftar tables set by Fatih Municipality in a different place every day during Ramadan has been set in Sultanahmet Square this year as in previous years.
In the first iftar of Ramadan, 30,000 Istanbul residents came together in Sultanahmet Square. The iftar meal organized by Fatih Municipality started with traditional iftar artillery shooting. Speaking at the opening of the iftar meal during which Janissary band displayed a performance, Mustafa Demir, Mayor of Fatih, said, “We are very happy to come together with 30,000 people in this historical square on the first evening of Ramadan.” İstanbul residents showed great interest in 30,000 people table set in Sultanahmet Square in the first iftar of Ramadan. A crowd of people who came to Sultanahmet Square hours before the iftar sat at the tables and waited for iftar time. With the coming of the iftar time, the “Huge” iftar meal organized by Fatih Municipality started with the firing of the artillery brought from the 1st Army, 23rd Division, 6th Regimental Commandry Hasdal quarter by Mustafa Demir, Mayor of Fatih.
After the traditional artillery shooting, İstanbul residents had iftar meal together in the historical peninsula. In the meantime, the performance displayed by the janissary band during artillery shooting also attracted great interest from the citizens. Speaking at the opening of the iftar meal, Mustafa Demir, Mayor of Fatih, said, “It a great pleasure for us to come together with 30,000 İstanbul residents in this historical place on the first day of Ramadan. Today there are people from all over the world. We are in a wonderful atmosphere in this area, that has nearly become the United Nations of the world. We will spend this Ramadan in these historic areas. Our goal here is to relive the beauties of Ramadan, that are sinking into oblivion.”
