Fatih Municipality has offered a breakfast to thousands of citizens who came to the Fatih Mosque for the Eid prayer. Citizens who performed the prayer first congratulated each other’s Eid, then had their breakfast together.
Fatih Municipality continued, this year too, to offer breakfast, soup and pretzels after the Eid prayer, which it turns out to become a tradition. Fatih Municipality is served a breakfast to 4,000 citizens in the courtyard of the Fatih Mosque, as it also hosted tens of thousands of citizens at street iftar dinners during the month of Ramadan. Citizens who performed the prayer first congratulated each other’s Eid, then had their breakfast together.
“Anatolian tradition is being continued in Istanbul”
Stating that Anatolian cultures have been kept alive with traditionally organized Eid Breakfasts each year, Fatih Mayor Mustafa Demir said, “This is our 10th breakfast program and we think of it as one of the most practical ways to bring the Anatolian tradition to Istanbul, to the big city. In Anatolia, everyone has breakfast in the Eid’s mornings as soon as they come home after they performed the Eid prayer in the mosques. So do us. Immediately after the breakfasts, children kiss their parents’ hands and receive their allowance, and then relatives and neighbors start to visit each other. We think of this program as a way of maintaining those traditions in Istanbul. After we finished the iftar dinners, in the shades of the Fatih Mosque, next to the tomb of Sultan Mehmet Khan the Conqueror, we have a greeting ceremony for the Eid. We are very pleased. People do not leave even after the prayer is over. May Allah let us meet together and celebrate many more Eids! We wish the Eid will bring peace and tranquility to our country, to the entire Islamic world and to humanity.”
In addition, soup is served to a total of 10,500 citizens after the Eid prayers in the 4 biggest mosques of Fatih district, namely, Sultan Ahmet (The Blue Mosque), Suleymaniye, Yavuz Selim and Sumbul Efendi Mosques.
